The companion to Residue of Light, worked in warm sand rather than chalk white, with the rounded forms given scalloped, petal-like edges where they catch the light. A single form near the centre is finished in deep oxblood.
Where the gilded piece is about light, this one is about pulse — the red sits low and slightly left, and the eye returns to it however long you look elsewhere.
Framed in dark walnut, which pulls the sand warmer than it reads in daylight.
